Founder & Director

Suhasini Riggs was initiated into Bharatanatya at a young age with Guru Narmada in Bangalore, India. She continued in USA under Guru Indira Satyapriya founder and director of the Nalanda School of Asian Indian Dances in Columbus, Ohio. Guru Indira studied Bharatanatya at Sri. Rajarajeshwari Bharatanatya Kalamandir in Mumbai, India. She is a disciple of Guru Kalyanasundaram Pillai, a direct disciple of the Thanjavur tradition and the current director of the Kalamandir. Over the years Suhasini has also studied under Guru Smitha Magal of Shilambam in Columbus, Ohio.

In May of 1999, Suhasini gave her Rangapravesha (dance graduation). Since then, she has performed in numerous solo performances, group dances, and dance dramas exploring the bounds of Hindu spirituality and devotion. Her performances in the US and India have been received with admiration and delight by her audiences. She is a frequent performer in Ohio temples adding visual beauty and grace to the worship sessions.

In Bhavayami, she took on many roles depicting the life of Lord Rama, in DashAvataram, she played the part of various incarnations of Lord Vishnu, and in SarvadevAnjali she depicted ArdhanarEshwara where Uma and Shiva become one combined form. She performed in Peace - a fundraiser for the 2004 Pacific Ocean tsunami. In 2005, she produced Guru Arpana, a Bharatanatya performance dedicated to Guru Indira by her senior students.  Most recently, Suhasini participated in the Chinmaya Mission of Central Ohio's fundraisers: in September 2006 Gyana Ganga on the mythology of the River Ganges and September 2007 Buddha - The Enlightened One on the life of the Buddha.

Professionally, Suhasini is a senior IT project manager at Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio. She lives with her husband Chris and their loving cat Bekku and adorable dog Neela.
